Upeh, The Gardens Mall, KL - Authentic Malay cuisine

Upeh takes over the spot previously occupied by Belanga Cafe in The Gardens Mall. Upon inspection of their menu, we noticed that the items served were similar (serving authentic Malay cuisine), so perhaps it's just a rebranding exercise.

I had the Nasi dagang rendang beef (RM19.90), aromatic brown rice steamed in coconut milk served with fork tender beef rendang, pickles, hard boiled egg and fresh salad. Diners can also opt for yellow curry fish or chicken kerutuk in lieu of the rendang. A perfectly balanced plate in terms of taste and texture. ;)

Ambiance

Hubby had the Nasi tumpang, a triangular cone shaped rice layered with fish floss, sambal bilis, egg and curry of choice. Hubby opted for prawn (RM10) which comes with two small prawns.

What attracted us to dine here this fine afternoon was to have this Upeh lekor (RM8.90). There will be a short wait as these are fried to order. Hot, chewy and fragrant, we enjoyed these! We had the Original flavour, but there are also other flavours such as lemongrass, garlic or black pepper.

Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.

Total bill RM48.80, including 2 drinks.

  1. I'd love this place, I know. I would go for our own Malay/Malaysian cuisine or one of those Asean delights...over those western or far eastern ones.
