Kirin Ichiban x Torii TTDI

Recently we visited Torii TTDI to experience their Japanese cuisine pairing with Kirin Ichiban beer. Torii is a Japanese-accented gastro bar with a menu dedicated to yakitori, as well as a wide range of delectable Japanese-inspired dishes such as broths, salads, sashimi, Japanese bites, wheat & grains and desserts.

While waiting for the food to arrive, we sipped on a glass of cold Kirin beer. Kirin Ichiban is a premium quality beer, made from 100% malt, hops and water and uses the innovative “First Press” brewing method, extracting the malt liquid from only the first press. This means only the purest, most flavourful portion is used. The resulting beer has a crisp start, followed by a rich flavour.

To start, we sampled some "Delicacies" from Torii's menu. We tried two of their signature items, the Bonded Unagi & Foie Gras (RM29.90) as well as the Avocado De La Mer (RM19.90). The latter features seafood such as prawn, scallops and crab, baked together with avocado, mushrooms, piquant miso and cheese sauce. The bonded unagi and foie gras was really good; a fantastic combination of sweet, juicy river eel with egg and luscious pan seared foie gras. This went well with the Kirin beer.

My favorite dish of the evening is the Kampachi Uni Jalapeno (RM34.90). Beautifully presented, this is also one of chef's new creations featuring uni (sea urchin) wrapped in kampachi sashimi, and then topped with ikura and caviar and served with a citrus ponzu sauce with black truffle salt. A mix of salty, sour and spicy flavours, this tasted amazing! Another enjoyable dish here is the Triple Peaks (RM26.90), whereby premium ingredients such as toro (tuna belly), uni and amaebi (sweet prawns) are topped on rice molehills.

Broiled Lobster Chowder & Crab Croutons (RM18.90)

Yakitori and a cold glass of Kirin beer definitely goes hand in hand. Torii offers over 40 types of skewers, featuring grilled skewered meats, seafood and vegetables. Over here at Torii, they use Japanese bincho charcoal, and sea salt for their yakitori to ensure the best quality is served to their customers. Throughout the night, we sampled a range of skewers which paired extremely well with Kirin beer. The salty and spicy element in the skewers bodes well with the smooth, light beer.

Veal Chunk with creamy sauce (RM15.90)

Rock Lobster with scallion and garlic chilli sauce (RM11.90)

Squid Tentacles with sea salt and tangy salsa (RM10.90)

Crispy Cheese Beef (RM12.90), one of their new creations - highly recommended! Hubby's favorite dish of the evening, the thin slices of beef is stuffed with cheese and grilled. Each mouthful of beef was happily washed down with Kirin beer - a match made in heaven.

Upper thigh (RM6.90) - juicy meat with that irresistible crispy skin!

Wings with sea salt (RM8.90)

We enjoyed the autumn risotto (RM27.90) with crab claw, egg yolk and asparagus. Again, this salty, savory and creamy rice dish worked a treat with the smooth Kirin beer.

For desserts, we had the green tea creme brulee with white chocolate lavender ice cream (RM24.90) and nutella gyoza with chocolate ganache and whiskey and raisin ice cream (RM24.90). I loved both the ice creams served with the desserts and also found the nutella gyoza interesting.

Currently, there is a promotion at Torii TTDI, whereby you can enjoy RM10 per glass of Kirin every Wednesday and Thursday (all night). Head over now for a good time at Torii, with great food and Kirin beer !

  3. I had Kirin before, those days when I used to drink. Loved their mini-draughts, with the plastic dragon sprout to pour it out, very nice.
