Big Tree Lin Kee, Cheras, KL - Round 2 & 3

Since it was Mother's Day last Sunday (13/5/12) in Malaysia, the ladies deserved a day off in the kitchen so we visited Big Tree Lin Kee restaurant again for dinner.  Since it's opening 2 weeks ago, my parents have been here 4 times and I have been here 3x. Happy to say that the food quality has been consistently good.

We were lucky that we arrived 5 minutes early, as the restaurant started filling up real fast after. There was a short wait for our food, but it was okay as long as the food tasted good. This time we decided to forego the steamed fish head and went for their other dishes.

We ordered the kam heong la la but was given the siong tong la la (RM11) by mistake. I didn't really mind as we wanted to try this style of cooking on our next visit anyway. The la la (clams) are very fresh, plump and the portion was quite large. The superior broth had a tinge of spiciness to it (cili padi added) as well as a light herbal taste due to dong quai (Angelica sinensis), a comforting and delicious broth. The goji berries added a little sweetness to the broth. I really love this dish - it is now a must-order for us when we visit this restaurant.

Since we loved this during our first visit, we ordered it again. The deep fried special seafood tofu (RM10) was even tastier this time - crispier skin and the filling was more flavourful.

The crispy chicken wings (RM3 per piece) was recommended by some friends, so we tried it this time around. Loved that it's been marinated with nam yue (red fermented beancurd) and then deep fried til crispy while still remaining moist inside. The children enjoyed this very much too, definitely finger licking good.

Look who's a fan of the chicken wings!

The stir fried kangkung with belacan (RM8) was expertly done - gone in minutes.

The ham yue fah lam (claypot pork belly with salted fish) (RM12) was late to arrive. The thin slices of pork belly was nicely cooked (long enough for the layers of fat to be melt-in-your-mouth) and also nicely flavoured by the salted fish. We ended up ordering extra rice to eat with this dish. Scrumptious!

Evening sky

Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day celebration. (Went back again today 16th May and ordered all the same dishes again cos we loved them all)
